Sri Yantra (The Universe)

The practice of health care is one that dates back thousands of years. The first recorded forms of medical practice are the very same roots of knowledge that grew into what we now know as the practice of yoga. While Yoga is a philosophy far broader than the "yoga classes" we all engage in at our studios and health clubs, the branch of yoga dealing with physical practices such as posture and breath maintain the depths of wisdom that this ancient philosophy holds. Asana, or focused posture, was practiced as a way to shine light on some very fundamental aspects of our physical nature which are all present within the human body. Especially as humans, we have the gift of a vertical spine, which many suggest is what supported our step above the rest in the animal kingdom. As we look at how our form developed alongside an evolving mind, it is clear that mind and body are strongly interwoven. We can see ancient shapes all over in nature and in our constructed human world; an expansive architecture constructed by time, consciousness, and the desire to strive toward perfection. It is now time we took a look at the innate knowledge and perfection found within the form, space and energy of our own bodies.

This intensive workshop weekend will cover a variety of topics related to posture, alignment and the application of posture and movement modalities for health maintenance. The 2-day workshop will consist of theory based lecture with supplemental exercises for the practical application of yoga postures and other forms of dynamic movement. By the end of the 10-hour class series students of this course will leave with a stronger relationship to their bodies, and the ability to cultivate practices that will bring physical balance to themselves and their students.
